This follow up is mainly aimed at the PR stunt @trent_reznor has embarked upon.
The timing of this was dead on. He flames a fan, and his activity on twitter almost comes to a dead stop. @trent_reznor on a normal day could be seen tweeting 50 times. After he attacked and outed a fan (BTW NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS DONE THIS KIND OF THING) his twittering STOPS.
Then… Without notice, he tweets about helping someone named #eric.
#Eric is a MAN that has obviously pulled at a LOT of heart strings. More true, his sister has. Veronica or @VeronicaDLCruz has pulled them for him.
I tend to look at things a little different than the next guy/gal. So, when I saw this, I instantly started digging.

It sounds like a great cause. Guy, caught up in the system. He can’t catch a break and the evil empire refuses to help him.

Poor career decision, cool, got it. But that does NOT explain why he SUDDENLY needs a heart transplant.
Nothing EVER could, this was not sudden. This was always on the horizon and poor planning caught up with him.
For the MASSIVE amount of people that will be calling me a hypocrite, I am not outing any of the personal information I have gathered on this subject. I DO have a massive amount of information on this subject and I doubt the #eric people to put a picture of #eric up that is more current because HIS SISTER knows how to use the public.
I am not saying she has done anything wrong either. If it were my brother, I would do it too!
BUT, I highly doubt the people donating know/knew anything other than what his sister has, “allowed” to be public. Her strongest argument was that our health care system is flawed. I agree, but I have health insurance and I do not have any preexisting conditions.
Does she really expect us to switch to socialized medical care?

Was this whole thing aimed at helping her brother only?
Did Trent Reznor, jump on board as a way to, “FIX” his bad behavior?
I can see through the PR stunt. It certainly was.
@trent_reznor you have some good PR people working for you, you might want to quit working against them. For your careers sake at least.

His timing is terribly off and had he not been a cheap you know what and hired someone, this all could’ve been made to look real. Trent Reznor ENCOURAGES people to steal his music, so why would he care if you started doing that instead of buying it?
He encourages people to steal OTHER people’s music. He wants your money, and was disappointed when some other stunt he pulled by giving people a choice of someone’s music he’d produced, to get it free, or pay $5 for a better recording. VERY few paid the $5. Another FAIL for Reznor.
@metalsludgetwo He gave out his new album for free, you twat. It helps if you actually know things before you try to talk about them.
Reznor has been releasing his last few albums with a “pay how ever much you want” pricing scheme, and has actually proved to be a very effective marketing strategy.
A lot of people took it for free. Some paid $5 (I did), and others paid hundreds for special edition versions.
There was no disappointment in that “stunt”. He made more money that way than he ever did when he was with his old label, and far more than he would have made using a traditional “twenty bucks, period” scheme that everybody else has been using for years.
Besides, Reznor doesn’t care about the money. He’s one of the few musicians that does it for the sake of the music.
Reznor actually embraces piracy of his music. He’s openly uploaded albums of his onto torrent trackers, and even encouraged a crowd to steal his album during a show:
“One way or another these motherfuckers (his label at the time) will get it through their heads that they’re ripping people off, and that’s not right.”
Hm, seems like another act of being a decent human being by Reznor, himself.

Eric will NOT be getting a transplant, I would place large amounts of money on this fact. He has rejected almost all meds at this point. In the US, even if you have lots of $$ it does not guarantee a heart transplant. There is a Transplant Board for ALL transplants that approves transplants based upon donor match, age, health of recipient, other life-threatening disorders, risk for postoperative complications, etc. These factors come BEFORE cost of transplants. A doctor and hospital will NOT do a transplant unless success is most likely. After reading about this patient Eric, it is unlikely he will receive a transplant due to his health being too far gone. So, this fund raising drive is very self serving first to Reznor and second to the patient’s family. What happens to the funds if he dies before or immediately after a transplant? That is the BIG question. This should be CLEARLY outlined and donors given the true facts. This fund raising has gone on for 3 weeks now, yet no transplant. Eric has been in ICU and a couple of days ago, Veronica alluded to the fact that the doctor said Eric was “too far gone maybe 2 years ago!”

Not here to flame you in the least, but I wanted to offer some perspective, from the POV of a woman who has a brother. Nothing scares me more than thinking of the day when my older sibling, my brother, will die. He is my only sibling and the thought of being the last person on the planet who remembers what our, at times crazy, funny, and cool, parents were like when we were little is very saddening. I find the story of Eric and his wonderful sister very inspiring. If it were my brother I wouldn’t give up until his last breath. I know it’s not easy to see someone who was very guarded of their personal life put it out there for the world online now, I know it’s been weird for me, but if you find it so distasteful, then block Trent Reznor out of your life. I didn’t know anything about Mariqueen before hearing about this whole saga, but I think she is a pretty cool person who if she was someone in my neck of the woods I would want to be friends with. She is a person, like everyone else. I believe that we do not choose who we fall in love with, but that some of us are lucky enough to fall in love with someone who is truely wonderful. It seems that someone for Trent is Mariqueen. If you can’t be happy for him in that regard, then perhaps you should focus your energy on something that is more fulfilling in your life.

In a previous post I had stated that the RSS feed for trents tweets were shown on the nin official website. I then was corrected as it was pointed out that it was the UN-official website on nin.com.
I repaired that…
ALTHOUGH that specific site ranked higher for the term “nin blog” than the official blog.
My POV… his tweets were seen by many more than just his followers and it was still a reckless thing to do.

While I agreed with you on your earlier blog, I have to come out in defense of Trent in regards to this.
Although I can’t speak for him, I do know he regularly performed/performs at the Bridge Benefit shows. You should be able to find that info on line. He supports PETA and is Grey Hound Rescuer.
He’s been very kind and loving toward animals especially, from what I can see.
After Hurricane Katrina his fans rallied with the support the band to raise money for New Orleans flood victims and for the animals that needed help also. This was all done back on the Spiral which is now gone. On this original fan site a forum was set up for charity and outreach.
During Year Zero he helped a cancer sufferer and fan and there have been other individuals that he’s helped privately.
He was good to a handicapped friend and gave her excellent care and treatment at a concert.
I hope Eric gets the help he needs and PR or not it is still a positive thing.
While I still don’t like the way he’s been acting out lately, I hope he gets some help. Something isn’t right in the water and the latest post on nin.com makes me very sad.

It does not make them more deserving than some kid, who maybe used a bit of poor planning in his career to plan ahead for that future heart transplant.

Why not just take it with a grain of salt? a woman loves her brother, and is doing whatever she can to try and get him help…you also said yourself, you’d do the same if you were in her shoes. If you think something is fishy, just don’t get involved, and don’t donate. If other people want to donate to help this kid, why is that such a problem? As someone else in an earlier comment already mentioned, regardless of what may or may not have been Trent’s motives, this kid will now have the $$ to get the transplant…and, sadly, if he does not make it, there will most likely be a charity set up in his name that will help OTHERS get needed medical care. that’s how these things work.
With so much going on in the world, maybe you should be a little more focused on your own life and try to make a meaningful difference in the world…ripping on Trent or any other celebrity is not going to get you anywhere…at the end of the day, who cares?

Calling them cowards who make nasty remarks from ‘the shadows’ (as a phrase he’s fond of using) of the internet, under an anonymous nym. They don’t think they’ve outed themselves, but they have. She is, as I said, obsessed with food and fat and her idea of being ‘beautiful’. He attacks from the shadows those he sees as attacking from the shadows. When someone like him has always tried to hold his private life as private, then all of a sudden bursts out with this emotional diarrhea, and takes such a negative spin on it, attacking the very people that made him, yeah, he opens himself up for attack, and I’m sorry, but some washed up ‘rock star’ calling someone fat, or a p*ssy online is hardly bringing down wrath upon them. Trent’s whole career has been based on drama, and his poor fans are finding out a lot of it was fake. So yeah, drama worthy for them. Your information is a little off. Eric has been fighting the system for some time. He could not get health insurance because of a pre-existing condition. The only insurance he could get was Nevada Medicaid which unfortunately does not cover Heart Transplants because the state of Nevada has no Heart Transplant centers. Hence hehad been fighting to get on Federal Medicare for 5 years where he could get better treatment down the road.
This originally started as a letter writing campaign to get the Governor and state representatives an congressmen to change the system and help push Eric’s case through so he could get federal medicare because so many things started going wrong with Eric too fast. His next court case was a year away. Time which Eric did not have.
When it looked like the letter writing campaign was not going to work, then it turned into a raising money campaign so Eric could pay for a heart transplant out of pocket.
Now why Trent decided to help this man is something only Trent can answer. My guess it’s is a good chance at bucking the system alongside someone who has been fighting it in the trenches for so long namely, Eric De La Cruz. Indeed Trent’s first tweet regarding eric mentions the red tape, before he came a couple days later to do something more proactive.
From what I’ve observed, Trent’s actions have been genuine in helping Eric. Trent even has gone out of his way to have an assistant help Eric’s sister & mom for a few days.
It also bothers me that just because Trent’s philanthropic principle says he helps Eric De La Cruz doesn’t mean that all his old friends and other people fighting diseases automatically get a pass. That’s completely ridiculous and crazy.
As far as #Eric not having a picture up. That’s Eric’s decision. Because his organs aren’t working so well he retains water and has become bloated so he doesn’t feel he looks like himself. Also he doesn’t want to be seen with IVs and machines hooked up in him. He’d rather not be perceived that way.

You’ve got it. We can’t prove anything. We just have a sets of facts from which we can make theories. We know that Trent did a number of very bad, very hurtful things to several of his fans. We know that a public outcry started after Trent’s behavior got out of control and he hurt said fans. We know that he went silent for a short time, and then he popped up and got involved heavily with #eric.
It could be coincidence. It could just be that the #eric cause came up and tugged his heartstrings somehow and he got involved. OR… he could have latched onto this cause as a way to face PR face. Both are possible. The fact that Trent’s fan base doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that #eric could be a PR move is telling, don’t you think? It’s a theory that makes sense and should be considered just like any other theory. It holds water and it makes sense. So why not consider it?

You got a good point regarding twitter. I dont think celebs with 1000s of followers understand that they have a responsibility for what they say more than the average Joe. Reznor uses his twitter unwisely and ends up flaming over 600k die-hard fans. And the unfortunate thing is that he does it over and over again. As you know I “suck” and just by that 1 post I got 100s of hate mail, threats and the likes. He has been acting like a total tosser and anyone with any brains and the ability to read can see that.

Wow this is quite the story…wait until you hear what happened to me. I started on twitter as a way to find friends and chill, and I made a lot of connections with high profile internet marketers as it was the ‘niche’ I was in.
Ironically when I heard of the Trent/Veronica fundraiser I was compelled to start a new twitter in an effort to raise funds before our family got evicted(in 24 days now). It was a car wreck with a semi-truck on Dec. 8th and it devastated our whole family. I built a website with all the details and a sincere plea for help. You can view it at http://www.abeswreck.com
I then made a twitter acct @abeswreck and was just asking random stars and high profile people (some my friends from my other acct) to either Retweet and/or give from their hearts to help our 4 kids keep our home.
I used the same picture on both accounts so it would create a connection for my original account followers, should they see me following them as a new name and want to follow me back.
LO and BEHOLD………..a ‘fan’ of #eric posted publicly to me and criticized me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had never seen or heard of them nor were they following me. Said my picture looked like I was hiding something because it didn’t show my whole face, like I was trying to be deceptive.
Why ANYONE would go out of their way to be hurtful, I truly do not know, but it DID hurt.
To be going through something so hard and have creeps show up out of the woodwork is just uncalled for. I have since unfollowed anyone with any connection with eric because of the bitter taste left in my mouth.
I agree with this whole blog, in that, I feel like those that are in the public eye have some sort of responsibility to act human. PR or no PR YOU need to be aware that mean/spiteful actions have consequences. Degrading behavior is spotlighted AND held in the cache of google!
Sorry to rant, but I am not a crack head junkie who refuses to work, I can’t find a job to save my life. This accident has cost us over $105,000.00 and I used my site to verify the numbers of everything. It was an effort to be totally transparent and honest and ask for help before our 4 kids lose their home.
BUT, I am NOT a PR expert or a newsworthy ’cause’ and so I don’t have the traffic needed which might help before it’s too late.
In the end, it’s hard for me to see that all the controversy over this post will just get more publicity for the work that Veronica did to get help for her brother. I am not against that, just sad.

You seem to think that Trent Reznor has any more influence over his fans than any other celebrity who has a following. NIN fans are tons of different kinds of people. Religious and non religious, violent and pacifists, left wing and right wing, straight and gay, black and white, and everything in between.
Yeah, some of them might make death threats (only assuming that Fred was actually worth anybody’s time to type out a death threat). Some of them might look up his information, others don’t care.
This has nothing to do with NIN’s or Trent’s followings. As I said before, it could have been ANY celebrity. Fred picked one who’s known to not give a shit about what people think and says exactly what is on his mind.
Trent doesn’t censor himself in any way, unlike a lot of other celebrities. He let Fred know exactly how he felt about Fred’s stupidity, without holding back due to record label backlash or anything.
Fred was well aware that this would happen, and that’s exactly why he decided to attack Trent. He knew Trent would publicly respond (as he has in the past), which would inevitably lead to more hits to his blog.
Regardless of what you, or anybody else supporting Fred in his need to be a martyr, seem to think, here is how the story is:
Reznor tries to help a person in need. Fred sees this act of charity and decides to be a complete dick to him on a public forum. Reznor responds, Fred gets publicity.
There it is. That is how this went down, with drama omitted.
Fred is a dick. Period. Sure, Trent may have overreacted, but that’s what he does. That’s what any rational human being does when somebody attacks them out of the blue. It has nothing to do with Trent, himself, or with NIN, or with the fans of Trent/NIN. As I’ve said before, it could have been any celebrity and their fanbase.

you have it wrong again.. Trent was with the campaign pretty much from the beginning.. twitter campaign started on May 12th. Trent jumped in on May 16th http://twitter.com/trent_reznor/status/1820460309 before the first news broadcast. The campaign was actually dying because someone [kind of like you] started accusing Veronica De La Cruz pretty loudly of being an impostor. In fact people started withdrawing the little donations that were made at the time.

Eric’s been in a hospital. His sister and mom have been living in the waiting room and hotels. There’s no priority for something like this right now. I agree that it was wrong for Trent Reznor to have released the details of that fan online – it was indeed reckless, and I applaud you for bringing this to light.
But that is where my agreement with you ends.
What you have done since is absolutely disgusting. There was absolutely no need to slander the campaign for Eric de la Cruz’s heart transplant. Undoubtedly, as E Nacino pointed out, your comments have probably stopped some people from making donations.
For you to question the motives of a celebrity to support Eric is also stupid. Tony Hawk has donated items for auction to help raise money – did he jump on board only recently because he wants to clear his name? No. So too have band members from Jane’s Addiction – what about them? The answer is the same – no. Regardless of whether Trent Reznor is vocally supporting Eric because he wants to amend his mistake, he has raised the profile of the campaign and increased the awareness among the public. Many people, Tony Hawk and the members of Jane’s Addiction included, probably would not have known about this and provided help if it was not for Trent.
My point is – who CARES if he only jumped on board to clear his name (apart from you and your supporters) – the result of this publicity is that it might indeed save Eric’s life, and I think it is that which should be looked at above everything else. By all means, question why Twitter hasn’t banned Trent Reznor for violation of their terms, question his actions in outing a fan – but why you feel the need to now shine a bad light on a woman who is trying to save her brothers life and the entire campaign thereof, is beyond me. But I guess there is no explanation behind cold-heartedness.
Fred isn’t slandering the campaign, which, by the way, has met the goal many times over, yet they’re still trying to raise more money for ERIC…not for someone else that could use the help…you think Eric is the ONLY dying person waiting for a transplant? It’s a huge failing of the system. The only real options to get around it are ‘move to a different state’ or ‘become very very rich’ – and those aren’t exactly options that are easily available to everyone…
Bottom line here is, attacking someone for trying to help save someone’s life and draw attention to this very real, very serious problem, it’s not cool.

I hope you see just how much hate you’ve attracted by dragging a sick young boy into a stupid argument accusing Trent of helping save a life for publicity. You really need to read every single comment you got because a few of these folks really explain what I couldn’t. I would personally be more than happy to tell Trent to his face that I think his behavior is horrid and that he is putting his fans in danger with his reckless and slanderous tweets. What’s the worst he could do to me? Throw me out? Who cares? As far as I can recall this all began when Fred didn’t get to meet Trent after winning one of the backstage passes given out on Twitter before the fund raising began. He turned up but Trent had given his time to the cause donators instead, which made Fred very angry, leading to stuff being said againts Trent on Twitter.. and here we are. I do wonder had Fred actually been able to meet Trent, if any of this blog would have happened.
On another note, I find it curious that since Trent began updating Twitter and opened up about his relationship status, there has been a lot of hate directed at Trent and his partner. I’m not sure if it’s because people feel it’s their duty to “look out for him” or if they just can’t handle their always-angry hero suddenly being happy.
But the net result of all of this is simple: Trent should just close his Twitter account and remove his presence from the web, because it would appear a very small section of his fan base just can’t handle the direct link or “access” as they imagine it, to him.
But to be fair, I expect most celebs to do the same sooner or later. The masses just can’t handle the “access” that Twitter is giving them.
This blog got 0 comments prior to all this, not its getting plenty. All because a fan didn’t get to meet his hero. Interesting.

Fred is not that kid for starters and this whole mess begun when Reznor 1st outed one of his ex gfs to the press and giving her number out (read http://bit.ly/IYwTU ) Then he went on to slag off and bully some girl named Angela (see her blog at http://www.angiez.net/blog/?p=606 ) ALSO do read Fred`s original blog Reznor aka @Trent_Reznor and his power. After than Reznor went on to announce to (his) world that I suck (LOL) see Fred`s blog Reznor goes on the attack again. WAAAY after that is when he conned the kid out of backstage passes (also updated in one of Fred`s blogs) So you see, your timing of this is all wrong and you obviously dont have the full version of this saga. This and all other Fred`s blogs have had plenty of comments before Reznor kindly advertised it to (his) world.

I’m not a medical expert at all, but not sure about the info presented. I remember hearing about some cases when peoples’ hearts got horribly damaged from a virus/bacteria infection like in a matter of days or even hours. Of course, sometimes it takes years for a heart to get ruined due to various factors. I don’t know the details, but I think it’s great for TR to raise money and awareness for the young man’s cause. Hope Eric and everyone else who is in need will get the help. Hope something good can come from all of this.
But I agree that publicly attacking his fans is not the best choice, too for anyone. No matter what was said or whatever, it’s immature and a waste of the artists’ time & energies to lash out at fans/former fans/etc. Then again, it’s a free world, I guess and anyone can post whatever due to free speech.

I have no idea WHY but about an hour ago, I tried to figure out all that is going on between you (“Fred”), Trent Reznor, some fans and some lady name Andrea. I’m still confused but this is what I’ve sorted out (probably not in chronological order because this drama-fest is sprawled all over the place, so please forgive me):
- Some girl named AngieZ, NIN’s “biggest fan” gets all ohemgee, Trent! I love your music, you’re so troubled, you’re not okay, I studied some psychology so I know, and wow, you’re in love? What?! You’re substituting this for other shit you need to work on…blahblah… Btw, I think your fiancé could be doing other people or did some other people before or something I mean, here’s a link to a picture that has been deleted as proof!
- Who knows what AngieZ said on twitter before her blog – I am too tired to really go back that far. She does get pissy that she isn’t…getting comped for the show in her area? (guess what? I wanted to see them & Jane’s Addiction when they came here but I’m f’n broke because I have to pay to live but I didn’t get upset with Trent because I didn’t get tickets – even though I’ve only been able to afford to see NIN twice and the first was that first ever lollapalooza show in AZ when it was so damn hot out their equipment went all wacky & didn’t work right and they attempted 4-5 songs before calling it quits). I digress. Trent gets pissy about this “fan” talking like she knows what’s best for him and calls her out. Whatev.
- Apparently, giving someone’s full name online is a huge no-no? Please, people. It’s the internet. Zabba search. IP search. Etc. Privacy doesn’t exist anymore, to the libertarians disdain… but I guess that’s the big scandal? Her rep as internet blogger/NIN “biggest fan” “AngieZ” is ruined? She’s in witness protection and people are going to kill her now?
- So then “Fred” here calls Trent out on it on his blog and says it’s violating twitter’s terms of service or something?
- Meanwhile, Trent decides to help raise money for someone who is really sick (Eric), thanks to his sister’s internet savvy.
- Some lady named Andrea gets in on this with “Fred” and both think this is bogus – Fred because it’s just a “PR” stunt, Andrea lady because it’s not a “good enough” cause in her eyes and people in Brazil deserve his help more.
- Both think that Trent’s only helping raise money for Eric because Eric is Filipino and so is Trent’s new love. (Wow, that’s kind of racist, don’t you think, guys? What is this, all Filipinos stick together and it’s that racial/ethnic pressure that forced mariqueen to get involved and pressure her guy to get involved…really?)
- So then Andrea lady says that wow, Trent’s going to help this guy he doesn’t even know, but when his ex gf was battling cancer, he didn’t lift one finger to help! Hrm, we don’t know what was going on with him back then but let’s just assume he was being an asshole. People can’t change? People can’t find a new passion for life and a desire to help, especially when they maybe haven’t done so in the past? No, apparently not. Apparently, according to this Andrea lady, if you don’t help anyone in life then you CAN’T EVER HELP ANYONE without it being suspicious ulterior-motive type stuff. Um. Okay?
- Both Andrea lady and “Fred” say oh yeah, Trent has totally called out someone in the past – looks like it was the ex gf in an interview! They link to it and…it looks like he talks about her and then gives the interviewer her contact information. Which reads to me as, her name is this and her number is this, in case you want to talk to her about this. I.e. she can be another source for this article, if you want to take it in this direction based on the question asked. Or to confirm we were together. (Or something like that?) for whatever reason, it is included in the text but noted that it has been withheld for privacy reasons. Okay. Odd. Not very good editing, but okay.
- Then Andrea lady goes on a Trent Reznor shit talking storm via her blog and twitter and “Fred”, too. Trent reacts (because he’s a person twittering and not an assistant or manager just giving the latest NIN music related bs stuff like some artists).
- Also, “Fred” insults poor, sick Eric for not having a corporate job w/benefits and instead being independently employed and not being able to obtain insurance on his own. As an obviously non-healthy person with an existing condition, insurance companies don’t want to touch him with a 10 ft pole because he is too much of a financial risk (this is our system, folks – people are trying to profit off of your health, it’s not about helping or healing, it’s about making money). He also insults Eric for being so very sick he needs a heart transplant RIGHT NOW, instead of his planning ahead years ago for this moment in time where he would be so sick…He continues to say that say Eric planned poorly in life and basically – he gets what he deserves. And obviously, he’s a poor candidate for Trent Reznor’s philanthropy. OBVIOUSLY. After all, according to “Fred”, this is all a PR stunt because…Trent Reznor doesn’t play nicey-nice with some people.
Okay-so that’s it, right? Maybe I’m mistaken here but wow. What a big, blown out piece of crap this all is. And yeah, I’ve written all this out and replied but damn. Thanks to my curiosity, I lost valuable sleeping time so something may as well come out of it.
“Fred” – just leave it be. I’m not a Trent freak or anything. It’s just embarrassing. Andrea lady – seriously? CHILL OUT. Who cares? Oh and way to go keeping Trent’s ex’s email “off the record” – although it seems you all share the same ‘theory” regarding Trent’s involvement with fund raising for Eric. REALLY LAME, people, REALLY LAME. AngieZ? If you have to ask for free stuff then you probably don’t deserve it. Also, psychoanalyzing musicians via your blog isn’t a good idea. And finally, don’t act so surprised when idolized musicians act like real people.
But no matter…guess what guys? You all received a lot more traffic to your respective blogs & such so congrats! Your keyboard courage has increased your numbers and that’s what the internet is all about. Awesome!

I hate to say it…because I love NIN’s music and (used to) think Trent Reznor was next to GOD…but I totally agree with pretty much everything you said. I think Eric’s sister, who yes, loves her brother, is being extremely manipulative. Why would you put the types of photos on twitter that she has?…the ones of HER at the hospital and all his equipment, the notes he’s having a hard time writing. Okay, we get it. He’s in a really bad place but nothing makes him more special than anybody else – other than the fact that Trent wants to get involved? Give me a break. I feel so guilty for saying that but Trent seems to have gone off the deep end. I have read your post yesterday and would have commented there but your conveniently closed off your comment box. Your assumptions are equally bad. I mean have you stopped to ask yourself why does Trent Reznor owe his old friends and ex-girlfriends anything or the relationships they have? You just assume that for no particular reason that he does owe these people.
No one says he OWES them, but he ignores them (it’d be NICE if he helped people he KNEW)and helps a stranger, quite publicly, at a time when he’s committed many a public boo-boo.

I get my email, address, name, personal phone number blasted all over multiple message boards, I get a personal email from trent telling me to FUCK OFF and a whole bunch of other things I prefer not to repeat, I get permanently banned from all his shows. ALL BECAUSE I DIDNT SAY I THOUGHT HE WAS AWESOME. ALL BECAUSE HE TREATED HIS FANS LIKE SHIT AND I SAID “HEY THATS FUCKED UP”.
Plus, I had all my internet accounts (email, paypal, ebay, myspace, ect) hacked into, money stolen out of my bank account, false things and inflammatory remarks posted everywhere and my myspace background and photos replaced with shit porn.
So FUCK TRENT REZNOR. He’s a fucking cry baby, vengeful, media whore. In terms of the shit going on now, it makes me sick. He’s doing it ALL for some sort of publicity because his band is getting weaker and weaker. It makes me SICK to see him blast people SIMPLY FOR POSTING THEIR OPINIONS OF HIS BEHAVIOR.

I found your blog and in the process of reading it. Thank you for the link. I feel passionately about the fact that Trent has violated someone’s privacy, slandered them and put them at personal risk of being threatened and possibly hurt by his fans. Trent needs to be held accountable for the damage he’s done and his fans need to both realize the ramifications of what he’s done and take him to task for it. If enough people start saying it maybe something will get through to him, and if not him, at least to his fans.

However, Trent has both a legal and and ethical responsibility to neither negligently nor maliciously endanger another human being. Trent knows full well that a significant portion of his fan base will react with great passion and venom against anyone Trent publicly denounces. I happened upon this log today, and reading theses posts back and forth is actually kind of sad and admittedly ridiculous.
TR may be a celeb, but he’s not unlike any other human being. If he wants to go around acting like he does, that’s his choice, but anything you say isn’t going to change that.
As for his ‘PR Stunt,’ things such as these are by no means unheard of from celebrities, as it is a humanistic way of possibly raising fanbase. That’s what PR is all about.
If someone has such a problem with donating to a cause that they don’t believe is justified or is valid, than don’t donate! It’s the choice of each individual, and forcing your own opinions on each other isn’t going to get you anywhere. And even by posting this, I can’t truthfully say I would expect anything to change.

I just recently graduated from college. I studied communications and I learned a few things. The one thing that kept coming from all my comm classes, is how media influences people and no ones realizes that.
I posted a comment on Hulu about how I didn’t like how the TV show Heroes did an episode with a black president in the shadows. I saw this as an example of how the writers wanted the election to come out. I knew this show was well written in advance of the presidential elections and knew that the writers were showing their opinion when this show aired. I took offense to this because that’s the first thing I saw. A black president. I saw this as the writers showing their opinion. I was instantly targeted as a fraking racist. I started off saying that I wasn’t and that I studied media communications. I was just pointing out how people in media show their opinion and people blindly follow.
Now seeing your post and following Trent, I realize this is just the same thing. HE should of just blindly donated money, and not raise a fuss. A troll posted on my hulu comment that Celebrities had nothing better to do, so they should just voice out things like this. Well, I laughed and said your wrong, and that’s why people are just blind and stupid when people follow celebrities. That’s why there is product placement or celebrities showing their favorite hair products.
I think celebrities just need to basically shut the hell up. People that follow by their life are blind and need to get outside. They need to see whats outside. Why did the campaign use pictures of #eric as a young child? Why didn’t the campaign use pictures of him as an adult?
The reason is, he would then be seen as an adult male. NOT some helpless kid caught in the middle of some bureaucracy that did not allow him his, “rights” to live.

I must say that I’ve been a NIN fan since Pretty Hate Machine and have heard so many stories from people that worked closely with Trent that he is, in so many words, screwed in the head.
I’m disgusted by what he’s done. And even more disgusted by his current little diatribe on the NIN message board about how he’s the victim and everyone sucks. And I was even further insulted when he started making comments about seeing overweight people in the front row of his shows.
What the bloody hell is that about? So, there’s an image type to be a NIN fan now? If so, I’m no longer a fan.
Most of the NIN fans I know are rabid, mentally unstable,obsessed nutjobs that would do anything Trent said because he is, in fact, their God. And that frightens me.
I remember having to write an article for a friend’s online fan-zine about “The Fragile” and I mentioned some stuff that I liked and some things that I didn’t. I recieved hate mail, death threats and had to go as far as changing my Yahoo e-mail three fucking times because of all of it.
So, for everyone that came here to flame Fred, good job being the “sheeple” you all claim to despise. Good job being all pissed off at someone for expressing his opinion of the whole sordid affair.
